First Grade

The First Graders continue to improve their reading skills while utilizing our reading program, Learn to ReadThe children collect the letters as they practice their letter sounds.  They then move on to learn new sight words, and finally read an interactive story.

Second Grade

In Second Grade the children have been writing in Microsoft Word.  After an introduction to Word 2007, the children are practicing their language skills while editing sentences in Word.

Third Grade

The Third Graders are working on their most recent assignment, which begins by reading a book selected in the media center on a particular career.  Then, using the Careers and Computers guide, they record information about their career.  Finally, they will type their final copy in Microsoft Word in the computer lab.

Fourth Grade

The Fourth Grade students are making rapid progress in their goal to learn touch typing.  Using the Ultra Key software, the students practice proper keyboarding techniques while they try to achieve ten words per minute with 92% accuracy.  As they complete this first level, they move into Level Two, where they must reach 20 words per minute.

Fifth Grade

Once again this year the Fifth Grade students are participating in the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ Species on the Edge Art and Essay Contest.  Each student selects an endangered species and completes an art project under the direction of Mrs. Tate.  Then, after researching their species, each student completes an essay about their chosen creature.  Click on 2008 Species on the Edge – Art and Essay Contest for more information on the subject:

Sixth Grade

The Sixth Grade is beginning work on a database in 2007 Microsoft Access.  In this project, the students will compile data concerning book award winners:  ten Newbery, ten Caldecott, and ten of their own book awards.  Much of the data that the children will collect will be found in the Internet through the American Library Association website.   Caldecott Awards    Newbery Awards
