This parent handbook has been developed to communicate to you information that we think you'll find useful.  Our students have received their own handbook which outlines what they are to do in order to enjoy success at school.
Guiding the child on his way to maturity is a cooperative effort which parents and teachers share with the best interest of the child always uppermost.  Mutual understanding and confidence is necessary between the home and school for the child to receive the maximum benefit from school experiences.  By reviewing the information in this handbook, you will have a clearer insight pertaining to our school.
A cordial invitation is extended to all parents to visit the school frequently to learn more about our programs, and to acquaint the school with any information that may be valuable in helping us to better understand your child.
With mutual cooperation, we feel certain that your child will enjoy school and will progress well socially, physically, and academically.  We look forward to working with you and your child during the coming year.

The Knowlton Township School District consists of Knowlton Township Elementary School presently housing over 340 students in grades pre-school through sixth.  Students are grouped in a self-contained setting in the lower grades; fourth, fifth, and sixth grades are partially departmentalized.  Students in these grades are grouped in homeroom classes heterogeneously, but may be grouped by ability for selected subjects.
There are two classes for students with special needs and two resource centers.  Students in the 3-5 year old age bracket who are eligible for pre-school for the disabled attend the Knowlton Pre-School.
The district provides its students with a comprehensive curriculum.  Academic subjects include reading, mathematics, language arts, spelling, science, social studies, and penmanship.  Specialists are employed to teach computer literacy, art, vocal and instrumental music, health education, physical education, gifted and talented education, world language, and library skills.  The district also employs a speech therapist, a counselor, and a part time Child Study Team.  The teaching staff consists of about 35 teachers.  The district's administration consists of the Superintendent, the Vice Principal, and the School Business Administrator.  The district's support staff consists of two secretaries, three custodians, and several teacher's aides.  The district contracts with an independent contractor to run seven bus routes.  The school participates in the National School Lunch Program; meals are prepared and served by employees of a food service management company.
With modern and well-maintained facilities, the school provides educational programs designed to help each child reach his/her full potential.
